Petter Richter started his musical studies with the cello at the age of 7. He started studying the guitar at the age of 13, at first with various local teachers, and later with Erik Stenstadvold at the Norwegian State Academy of music in Oslo.
He has also studied with Franz Halasz in Augsburg, Germany and with Pablo Marquez in Strasbourg, France. He has participated in many masterclasses with the likes of David Starobin, the Assad brothers, Roland Dyens, Oscar Ghiglia, Leo Brouwer, John Williams, and Nigel North.
Petter was the first guitarist ever to receive the “RWE-DEA Scholarship Programme in Music”. After winning several national and international guitar competitions he has played concerts in most european countries and in Asia.
He has played chamber music with musicians like flautist Jaques Zoon, singers Petter Udland Johansen and Arianna Savall, but has worked most extensively with violinist Henning Kraggerud.
He has also commissioned and performed works by a great number of composers including Dagfinn Rosnes, Maja Solveig Ratkje, Kristin Andersen and Rob Waring, among others. He also plays the orbo and the baroque guitar in various ensembles in central Europe and Norway.

- 1st prize winner of the 1997 guitar competition in Skjeberg, Norway. (Youngest winner in the history of the contest)
- 1st prize winner of the 2001 international guitar competiton in Rennes, France.
- 3rd prize in the 1. international “Augustin Barrios” competition in Lambesc, France (2002).
- 2nd prize in the 3. international guitar competition “Los Realejos” in Tenerife, Spain (2003).
